one piece at a time

You’ll get there. I believe in you.

During my writing streams I speak to a few writers that have since given up writing and the very technical nature of this art is too daunting to break into.

If this is you, trust me, you’re not the only one. An old friend told me once if you look at the blank canvas as a whole, it’s easy to be stunned by the amount of work that has to be done. When you begin you must start one piece at a time.

For a writer, what would this look like? In short, the journey is more important than the end product. Primarily because you can’t reach your end product without the journey. Start with 10 words a day. They don’t have to make sense and they definitely don’t have to be the most brilliant piece of text you’ve ever written. No one’s first draft is a masterpiece. Not anymore at least.

Once you hit your ten word count, you’ve made progress!! You’re not at your 50,000 word count mark yet but you’re that much closer. If you do this every day before you know it, you’re at 1,000 words. So on and so forth. I would recommend you increase your quota but generally, little progress is infinitely better than no progress!

What has been your experience with starting anew after a break? Where you able to conquer that elusive muse that escapes your art? What did you do to get back into writing/creation of art? Let me know your experience!

I stream every Tues and Thurs from 6:30am-11:00am on www.twitch.tv/thewritingvault swing by and say hi!
